The Gallery Host provides a welcoming, safe, and exceptional visitor experience by demonstrating genuine attentiveness to guest needs and inquiries related to collections and special exhibitions. Gallery Hosts assist visitors as they navigate the museum and perform front desk duties and responsibilities in a friendly and professional manner. Gallery Hosts participate in on‑going training sessions in four front‑of‑house areas: visitor experience, front desk admissions, the museum programming and events, and safety training.
Duties- Front Desk – Greet and welcome all museum visitors with a friendly, professional, and positive demeanor. Front desk responsibilities include ticketing, signing up new members, answering the phone, and visitor orientation.
- Museum Experience – Attends to visitor needs and inquiries and provides tools to enhance their experience in the museum.
- Public Interaction – Maintain knowledge and share information with visitors about special events, programs, collections, exhibitions, the building, and all museum offerings.
- Training – Complete all ongoing training, including but not limited to audience engagement, customer service, visitor orientation, and visitor safety.
- Gallery Safety – Uphold museum policies and respond to visitor issues with poise, respect, and diplomacy. Ensure procedures are followed for the safety of museum guests and artwork in all galleries and public spaces throughout the museum.
- Safety Policies – Understand the museum's safety policies and emergency procedures and be ready, willing, and able to assist with evacuations and other emergency situations.
- Reporting – Report anything unusual or out of place in all public spaces within the museum. Notify Manager immediately of any issues that require attention.
- Gallery Material Monitor – Monitor and replace any gallery materials, interactives, guides, etc. as needed.
- Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
Required
Education:
Must be currently enrolled in the current SPRING 2026 term as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.
- Must attach SPRING 2026 class schedule.
Skills:
- Working knowledge of office procedures
- Ability to use a computer, calculator, and take clear messages.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, and Teams)
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to work as a team member
- Ability to complete tasks in an efficient and timely manner
- Must be detail oriented.
- Ability to multitask, be organized, and self‑motivated
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and in writing
Department Preferences:
- Customer service experience
- Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
Supervision Received:
Reports to the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art’s Gallery Host Manager.
