Overview
The Informatics Trainer is an integral member of the Epic electronic health record (EHR) support team. Accurate documentation in Epic is vital to patient safety, the overall patient care plan, and reimbursement for services performed. The Informatics Trainer ensures Epic users across the Carle enterprise are prepared with the necessary Epic skills and tools to be successful. The role promotes present-system functionality and uses knowledge of multiple Epic modules to support projects impacting patient care, patient outcomes, patient safety, and end-user workflow.
Superior interpersonal, communication, training, and presentation abilities are key. The position requires collaboration with Epic analysts, providers, nursing, and operational leadership. The Informatics Trainer will complete Epic principal trainer certification or credentialing within three months of hire or as directed, and will train independently within three months of certification or credentialing.

- Plan, manage, attend, lead, and document notes/minutes of telephone, virtual, and in-person/onsite/on-premises meetings.
- Earn and maintain Epic certification or credentials.
- Plan, schedule, and deliver training.
- Adhere to standardized training curricula, class length, and delivery methods.
- Provide follow-up support to users after training, as needed.
- Assess EHR skills of clinicians and providers and recommend appropriate training to promote end-user success.
- Utilize approved survey tools to evaluate and measure the results of training.
- Collaborate with clinical leaders, clinical staff, and providers to plan, prioritize, design, develop, implement, and evaluate EHR technology.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with team, clinicians, providers, other departments, and outside partners.
- Function as a liaison between clinicians, providers, and information technology.
- Lead and participate in projects at local, regional, and system levels and manage tasks within project timelines.
- Train, round, and support end-users independently to achieve defined outcomes.
- Ensure work is accurate and follows the format, style, and tone set forth by leadership.
- Utilize Epic reports to monitor provider and clinician mastery of the EHR and deliver customized training to improve Epic efficiency.
- Serve as a resource for Super Users and departmental leaders regarding all EHR applications.
- Provide on-site support for projects, acquisitions, Community Connect implementations, and upgrades.
- Communicate EHR-related information to customers via rounding, email, newsletters, videos, webinars, and other written materials to support the change management process.
- Assist with downtime preparedness, including the Epic business continuity plan.
- Assist with EHR Integration Testing for Epic Updates.
- Attend Epic educational offerings and share learnings to improve knowledge across the organization.
- Engage in Epic build tasks as needed by the organization.
- Research potential solutions, identify opportunities, track and seek approval for enhancement requests, and assist in prioritization and implementation of system changes.
