Responsibilities

  • In accordance with state and federal regulations, assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy and in the performance of other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • If PTCB certified, assist with and coach pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cashiers in the operation of pharmacy cash registers.
  • Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience.
Customer Experience
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with all team members, including interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits.
  • Develop strong relationships with most valuable customers.
Operations
  • Assist the pharmacist under supervision, in accordance with state, federal, and company policy.
  • Use pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, ensuring correct entry, and fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
  • Verify medicine is correct and check for possible interactions.
  • Assist pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow.
  • Report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to company policies and procedures related to pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
  • Adhere strictly to the Walgreens Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing during all applicable prescription dispensing activities.
  • Register all related sales on the assigned cash register, collect and handle cash as required; assist customers with locating products in the OTC aisle.
  • Handle telephone calls that do not require personal attention of the pharmacist, including those to physicians.
  • Process (correct and resubmit) manual claims for third‑party program prescription services in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Assist and support Pharmacy Department on inventory management activities (ordering, unpacking, checking, storing shipments, and maintaining knowledge of company asset protection techniques).
  • Assist pharmacist in administering clinical services (collection and labeling of blood/urine samples) and coordinate clinical services, Walgreens healthcare clinics, and external providers.
  • Assist Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in developing and maintaining relationships with the local medical community, including outreach to health groups and nursing homes.
  • Assist with exterior and interior maintenance by ensuring the Pharmacy Department is stocked, clean, and orderly.
  • Maintain respectful relationships with coworkers and comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Training & Personal Development
  • Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or state‑required certification/registration.
  • Attend training and complete requested PPLs and acquire continuing education credits; maintain knowledge and skills in healthcare and pharmacy, including latest news and developments.
Basic Qualifications
  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Requires willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Prefer good math skills for accurate prescription filling (counting, measuring, and weighing medications).
  • Prefer good computer skills.
  • Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
  • Prefer PTCB certification.
