Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Endo Scrub HCT functions as a support to the licensed nursing staff and performs activities related to the personal care and hygiene needs of an assigned patient group. Facilitates communication with other departments, visitors, patients, medical staff and employees. Serves as a public relations liaison for the unit and works under the direct supervision of the nursing manager.
Qualifications- Certification:
Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days – American Heart Association (AHA). - Education:
High School Diploma or GED. - Work Experience:
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with at least one semester of nursing clinical experience; successful completion of Carle’s HCT In Training Program. - Relevant medical or military training and completion of CNA coursework within the past 24 months.
- Certified Medical Assistant at Carle Health.
- Assist with the maintenance of unit supplies and ensure the smooth function of the unit, including stocking cubicles, cleaning equipment, ordering supplies, and making up charts.
- Collect data on assigned patients as directed by the RN and ensure accurate documentation in the electronic health record.
- Demonstrate competency in psychomotor skills such as measuring vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, and obtaining height and weight.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living and provide support during endoscopic procedures.
- Maintain knowledge of gastrointestinal and pulmonary endoscopic procedures and the equipment used in the department.
- Handle endoscopic instrumentation during procedures and assist with decontamination and reprocessing to ensure patient safety.
- Monitor and manage high‑level disinfectant solutions, equipment inventory, and scope labeling.
- Support quality improvement activities, maintain equipment and patient supply inventory, and coordinate scheduling and patient registration.
- Communicate effectively with ancillary departments, physicians’ offices, and patients using professional language and AIDET principles.
