Career Services’ mission is to empower and support Redbirds to achieve their professional goals by providing resources, experiences, and industry connections. The Career Advising Graduate Assistant will assist their direct supervisor and the Student Relations Team with achieving the mission, vision, and goals of Career Services. The GA will be responsible for the duties listed below in addition to other duties assigned.
Advising& Presentations
- Facilitate one-on-one career advising sessions with students regarding career readiness (resume and cover letter writing/reviews; interview preparation; mock interviews; job and internship search strategies; and general career inquiries) and career exploration.
- Educate students on appropriate uses of Career Services’ resources.
- Record advising meeting notes in a timely fashion.
- Individualize career advising sessions based upon analysis of audience needs.
- Counsel students during career advising sessions to pursue career goals and/or career exploration and encourage follow-up with a career advisor as needed.
- Present career-related workshops/presentations for undergraduates, Registered Student Organizations (RSOs), and additional groups as assigned.
- Individualize presentations based on audience needs.
- Attend Career Services meetings, training, and professional development sessions as required.
- Advocate for ideas in the development of new career programming based on the needs of campus constituents.
- Maintain work calendar and respond to correspondence in a timely fashion.
$1,510 for 0.5 FTE appointment

This is a 9.5 month Graduate Assistantship with a contract period from August 4, 2025 - May 8, 2026. As a GA, you will be expected to adhere to the University Administrative Calendar and all expectations as set forth in the offer letter. An extension of this appointment is available, pending satisfactory performance.

You must be eligible for employment in the United States and at Illinois State University and/or for the number of hours required for the position.
Illinois State University student employees are restricted to no more than 28 hours per week of on campus employment for all positions held. International students are restricted by their visa status to no more than 20 hours per week of on-campus employment when the university is in session but may work up to 28 hours per week when the university is not in session.
