Job Pipe Welder – SMAW/GTAW (Shipyard/Industrial) – Hiring Now!
Location: Suffolk, VA (Hampton Roads)
Schedule: Mon–Fri, 6 AM–4 PM + occasional Saturdays
Employment Type: Full‑Time
About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced Pipe Welder skilled in SMAW and GTAW processes to support shipyard and industrial projects across the Hampton Roads region. This role is ideal for welders who excel in multi‑pass, all‑position pipe welding and want steady work, overtime opportunities, and long‑term career growth.
Key Responsibilities- Perform multi‑pass fillet and butt welds in all positions using SMAW
- Weld carbon steel, stainless steel, and copper‑nickel pipe using SMAW/GTAW
- Complete mirror welding in tight or challenging environments
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, weld symbols, and measurements
- Prep and set up pipe materials per specifications (cutting, grinding, fit‑up)
- Use fillet gauges, butt gauges, and a 6‑inch scale accurately
- Follow OSHA and industry safety procedures for shipyard environments
- Complete required computer‑based training modules
- 2–5 years of TIG and STICK pipe welding experience
- 3+ years welding metals using electric, gas, and arc processes
- Ability to pass a SMAW 6‑inch pipe weld test
- Experience working in shipyards, industrial sites, shutdowns, or similar environments
- Ability to work with oxygen/propane heating torches
- Strong focus on safety, precision, and workmanship
- Consistent overtime and strong earning potential

You’ll work on shipyard and construction projects in Norfolk, Newport News, Portsmouth, and surrounding areas. This role requires physical activity, climbing, maneuvering in ship compartments, and working in industrial environments.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $35.00/hr.
