TWO POSITIONS WILL BE FILLED FROM THIS RECRUITMENT. To respond promptly to customer needs and requests. Perform a wide variety of general maintenance tasks to solve the situation proactive regarding preventative maintenance and identification of repairs required and areas for improvement.
ResponsibilitiesTo respond promptly to customer needs and requests. Perform a wide variety of general maintenance tasks to solve the situation proactive regarding preventative maintenance and identification of repairs required and areas for improvement.
Knowledge, skills and abilitiesConsiderable knowledge in building HVAC and plumbing system and their operation. Basic knowledge in electrical field. Working knowledge of all hand tools use in the trades such as electrical testing meter, water gauges and alignment instruments to perform preventive maintenance on a variety of mechanical equipment. Demonstrated ability to use and follow department and manufacture recommendations and guidelines both written and oral to perform preventive maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, and electrical equipment and their associated controls.

Valid driver s license in good standing with insurable driving record.
Education or trainingNone
ExperienceConsiderable experience performing maintenance and repair of building mechanical systems in a light commercial institutional setting.
Additional ConsiderationsMechanical license, plumbing license, electrical license or equivalent training and certification in all or one of these fields and City of Norfolk backflow certification. Training in preventive maintenance and repair of building mechanical equipment in one or more trades.
Conditions of EmploymentFacilities Management employees are considered essential personnel and subject to working during university closings. The holder of this position is also subject serving on a schedule to be called back to work during non-work hours. In such an event, this position is required to respond to after-hours calls and will carry an ODU cell phone on a rotational basis. While serving as the after-hours call-back person, the individual must remain available by telephone, text, or pager while off site and respond to any message within fifteen (15) minutes.
