Overview

Maintenance Carpenter.

Location:

Norfolk, VA. Classified, full time position in the MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR department.

Responsibilities
  • Preventative and corrective maintenance of EVMS buildings and facilities with emphasis on plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and other environmental systems.
  • Work as an essential maintenance employee and participate in an on-call rotation; report to work during emergencies or inclement weather as required.
  • Perform duties that may include snow removal and related winter maintenance tasks as needed to ensure site operations.
Qualifications
  • Journeyman level Carpenter; five (5) years of experience in woodworking and framing in residential, commercial, and municipal construction.
  • Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and sketches to fully grasp requirements; ability to take measurements and estimate material quantities.
  • Ability to layout flooring, roofing, or drywall to ensure level and compatible installations.
  • Ability to carve and assemble furniture, cabinets, shelves, and other items and install as designated.
  • Ability to build scaffolding and other construction structures (e.g., wooden decks or steps).
  • Must have a valid Virginia Driver's License and be insurable through EVMS insurance carrier.
  • Ability to calculate figures and apply basic algebra and statistical concepts; ability to manage time and resources to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with the public, partners, customers, and co-workers; work cooperatively to achieve goals.
  • Ability to adapt to changing work environments and priorities; take independent action to resolve problems; demonstrate sound judgment.
  • Commitment to comply with EVMS policies and procedures and to maintain professional conduct.
Special Licenses, Registration or Certification
  • Valid Virginia Driver's License; insurable through EVMS.
Conditions of Employment
  • Facilities Management employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to work during university closings.

Compensation

Annual salary/hourly rate:
Salary commensurate with education and experience.
