Colonna’s Shipyard is seeking a Quality Assurance Manager at our Shipyard in Norfolk, VA. The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for the day‑to‑day operations of all aspects of the department and will aid in the development, implementation, and surveillance of the Quality Management System.
Location:
Norfolk, VA. Onsite. May require hours beyond a standard work week and limited travel.
- Maintain, implement, and revise the Quality Management System, under the direction of the corporate Quality department.
- Generate, review, and/or submit Process Control Procedures, Test and Inspection Plans, Required Report Lists, Condition Reports, etc.
- Serve as liaison between Colonna’s Shipyard and customers to answer and investigate discrepancies, concerns, or issues.
- Prepare the Quality Assurance Department to meet external certification or customer audit requirements.
- Conduct quality meetings to discuss audits, senior management review meetings, status of corrective actions, opportunities for improvement, and other quality issues.
- Train QA and production personnel on quality plans, procedures, work instructions, contracts, and customer requirements.
- Maintain documents, records, and audit data; provide copies to Colonna’s Shipyard as required.
- Assist in preparing Management Reviews.
- Oversee daily operations of the QA Department.
- Hold weekly QA Department meetings to discuss quality and safety topics.
- Ensure timely and adequate OQE submittals to customers.
- Participate and lead quality‑focused requirements during various phases of the product life cycle.
- Conduct internal audits as needed.
- Oversee the Customer Survey Program.
- 5-7 years experience in manufacturing, engineering services, or a technical field with quality responsibilities.
- Knowledge of quality techniques and systems, including quality specifications and advanced quality systems.
- Ability to lead corrective action using disciplined problem solving and statistical analysis.
- Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Department of Defense experience, especially with government customer relations.
- In‑depth knowledge of ISO 9001 Standards and ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certification.
- Minimal travel; 15% or less.
- Maintain stationary position, standing, or sitting for prolonged periods.
- Work on a computer for long periods.
- Perform physical tasks: sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, climb, reach, push, pull, stoop, crawl, kneel, balance, lift, carry various objects and equipment.
- Work in shipyard/industrial environment; up to 65% of time involves frequent movement.
- Work in office environment with standard equipment; navigate shipyard/industrial environments regularly.
- Climb stairs, move throughout facility and onboard vessels.
