About Heartstrings

Heartstrings Pet Hospice is a privately owned, rapidly growing in‑home euthanasia and end‑of‑life care practice founded on compassion, dignity, and respect. We are expanding throughout the Hampton Roads area and seek exceptional associate veterinarians who want to practice meaningful medicine in a supportive, values‑driven environment.

Position Overview

You will provide compassionate, gentle in‑home euthanasia, hospice, and palliative care. Working independently in the field, you will be fully supported by a collaborative medical leadership team, veterinary care specialists, and strong operational infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide in‑home euthanasia, hospice, and palliative care in a compassionate fear‑free aligned manner.
  • Support families through the end‑of‑life process with empathy, patience, and professionalism.
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation.
  • Collaborate with Heartstrings' medical leadership and support teams.
  • Participate in ongoing training, education, and clinical development.
Veterinarian Core Responsibilities
  • Provide in‑home euthanasia and hospice care for geriatric and terminally ill pets.
  • Guide families in making end‑of‑life decisions.
  • Build relationships with local veterinary clinics as an extension of their care.

  • Comfortable working independently in the field.
  • Strong communicator during emotionally sensitive situations.
  • Seeking meaningful, purpose‑driven veterinary work.

Requirements
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD, or BVMS) from an accredited veterinary school.
  • Active (or ability to obtain) veterinary license in the state of practice.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • Availability to work some weekends as part of a rotating schedule.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted and up to 100 lbs with assistance.
  • Candidates will be subject to background check and motor vehicle record (MVR) check post‑hire and prior to their associated start date.
