Overview

Sentara Heart Hospital, located on the Campus of Sentara Norfolk General in Norfolk, Virginia, is hiring a Travel Registered Nurse for the Advanced Heart Failure Unit (AHFU).

Position: Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiac Advanced Heart Failure Unit

Location: Sentara Heart Hospital – Norfolk, VA

• $70.00/hr pay rate
• Temporary Full Time
• 14-week assignment
• NIGHT Shift
• No benefits

• Provide bedside nursing care for adults with acute to high-acuity cardiac conditions in telemetry, step-down, or critical care settings.
• Interpret cardiac rhythms, identify arrhythmias, and understand their clinical significance.
• Administer medications and implement appropriate nursing interventions; respond to emergencies per protocol.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes and ensure smooth unit operations.

• Education:
  
  Associate, Bachelor, Master, or Diploma in Nursing.
• Licensure:
  Virginia or Compact Multi-State License in good standing.
• Certifications:
  
  BLS, ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale.

• Minimum of 2 years of recent acute care cardiac hospital RN experience.

The AHFU is a 24-bed high-acuity cardiac care unit specializing in:

• Severe heart failure
• Pre- and post-heart transplant care
• Pulmonary hypertension

Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) and transplant experience are not required, but opportunities exist to expand cardiac skills in these areas.

• Work with advanced bedside monitoring systems and other high-tech equipment.
• For candidates with ICU experience, opportunities to titrate IV medications based on hemodynamic monitoring.

• 24/7 consistent communication and intricate interdisciplinary teamwork.
• Strong culture of collaboration and mutual support essential for success on the AHFU.

• Typically care for 3–4 patients, depending on acuity.
