Position Summary:The Preoperative & Recovery Nurse (RN) plays a vital role in the care of patients undergoing gastroenterology, pulmonary, vascular, neuro-interventional, and interventional radiology procedures at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. This nurse provides comprehensive post-procedure care, ensuring safe, high-quality outcomes through thorough assessments, clinical preparation, vigilant recovery monitoring, and patient education.
Schedule:Shifts:
Rotating shifts within unit hours of 0800 to 2100, Monday through Friday
Call Requirement:
One weekend every 7–8 weeks, 0730–1500
- Receive post‑procedural patients and perform focused recovery assessments including vital signs, neuro checks, and site monitoring.
- Monitor for complications such as bleeding, hemodynamic instability, or adverse reactions to sedation/anesthesia.
- Manage pain, nausea, and other immediate recovery needs with physician‑directed interventions.
- Provide discharge instructions and education tailored to the patient’s procedure and condition.
- Document all recovery findings and nursing care in EPIC.
- Facilitate safe and timely discharge or admission based on patient status.
- Current RN license in the state of Virginia
- BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA‑approved)
- At least 1 year of experience in PACU, ICU, ED, or procedural recovery nursing
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Experience in Interventional Radiology, Endoscopy or procedural prep/recovery
- EPIC EMR proficiency
