Job Description

SOUTH BAY SANDBLASTING & TANK CLEANING, INC. located in Norfolk, VA, a shipyard-related subcontractor, is looking to hire an Environmental Health and Safety Technician.

Job Summary

We're seeking an EH&S Technician committed to safety. The ideal candidate will perform duties including ship inspections, training, hazardous waste removal coordination, sample collection, and more. Candidate must be comfortable working in confined spaces and willing to work long hours and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Perform physical duties as assigned
• Use proper PPE
• Conduct ship inspections and correct discrepancies
• Provide training and coordinate hazardous waste removal and compliance
• Recordkeeping and sample collection
• Conduct industrial hygiene surveys and accident investigations
• Provide safety data sheets and perform specialized tasks as needed
• Implement and follow safety, quality, and environmental policies

Qualifications

• Ability to read labels, warnings, and guidelines
• Effective time management and minimal supervision
• Attention to detail and safety awareness
• Good communication skills
• Minimum two years of EH&S experience
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point
• Knowledge of OSHA Maritime Standards

Education Requirements

• High school diploma or GED, or equivalent; B.A. or technical/vocational training preferred
• Certified HAZWOPER and OSHA Maritime Safety training

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Work involves indoor and outdoor environments, often exposed to weather, fumes, chemicals, noise, and dust. Must be able to climb stairs, work on vessels, and stand or walk for long periods. Varying schedules and hours required.

• Participation in E-Verify
• Must qualify for DBIDS security clearance
• Ability to read technical English; U.S. Citizenship preferred
