Industry: Structural / Heavy Steel Fabrication
A leading U.S. structural steel fabricator is seeking a Production Planning Engineer to drive shop efficiency, sequencing, and on-time delivery across complex fabrication projects. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, fabrication, and operations.
The RoleYou’ll be responsible for translating project drawings and schedules into executable fabrication plans, ensuring material flow, labor loading, and shop sequencing are aligned with delivery milestones.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain detailed production plans and fabrication schedules
- Analyze drawings, BOMs, and model data to optimize shop sequencing
- Coordinate closely with engineering, detailing, procurement, and shop supervision
- Plan labor, machine utilization, and work centers to avoid bottlenecks
- Track production progress and adjust plans to maintain delivery commitments
- Support continuous improvement in throughput, efficiency, and lead times
- Assist with look-ahead planning and priority setting across multiple projects
- Experience in structural steel fabrication or heavy manufacturing
- Strong understanding of fabrication workflows (cutting, fitting, welding, coating, shipping)
- Ability to read and interpret structural steel drawings and BOMs
- Experience with production scheduling / planning tools (ERP, MRP, Excel, or similar)
- Engineering background preferred (Mechanical, Civil, Industrial, or similar)
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable operating at the shop–office interface
- Direct impact on shop performance and delivery
- Exposure to large, complex steel projects
