Human Resources Specialist - Norfolk, VA

Overview

The Human Resources Specialist supports daily HR operations and provides administrative and technical assistance across various HR functions. This role helps ensure a positive employee experience by coordinating recruitment, onboarding, data management, and employee support. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and eager to learn about the full cycle of human resources processes. This in-office role is full-time, with benefits in Norfolk, VA.

Preferred candidates will be bilingual in English and Spanish.

• This position has no direct reports.

• Answer the HR phone line as the primary point of contact for HR-related inquiries.
• Triage calls by identifying needs, providing accurate information, and directing callers to the appropriate HR team member or resource.
• Document and track inquiries, ensuring follow-up and resolution within expected time frames.
• Provide guidance on common topics such as benefits, policies, onboarding steps, timekeeping, and general HR procedures.
• Handle sensitive questions with discretion, professionalism, and excellent customer service.
• Provide employees with policy and process information in a clear and friendly manner.
• Escalate complex or sensitive employee relation matters to appropriate HR team members.

• Provides clear, courteous, and helpful responses, especially over the phone.
• Demonstrates patience, empathy, and a solution-oriented approach.
• Maintains discretion with sensitive employee information.
• Works closely with HR partners to ensure seamless service delivery.
• Handles varying question types and shifting priorities with ease.

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certification.
• Strong customer service mindset with exceptional phone etiquette.
• High attention to detail and accuracy, especially when handling sensitive information.
• Ability to manage multiple inquiries at once and prioritize effectively.
