Clinical Lab Assistant at Sentara Health
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring a Clinical Lab Assistant for part‑time night shift (9:30 p‑5:30 a). The position is located in the Lab Processing unit.
OverviewPrimary point of contact for all specimen entry into the laboratory. Labels, processes, and distributes samples based on testing ordered and required. Monitors supply levels in the specimen processing area. Operates and maintains laboratory equipment and is responsible for internal and external customer inquiry and problem resolution. Frequent interaction with hospitals, nursing facilities, and physician office staff.
Responsibilities- Enter specimens into the laboratory information system.
- Label and process specimens.
- Distribute specimens for testing.
- Monitor and restock supplies.
- Operate and maintain lab equipment.
- Handle customer inquiries and resolve issues.
- Interact regularly with external facilities and staff.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- No specific certification or licensure required.
- 1 year of healthcare experience (preferred).

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is a 525‑bed tertiary care facility and the only Level I Adult Trauma Center and burn trauma unit in Hampton Roads. It serves as the primary teaching hospital for Eastern Virginia Medical School and is recognized as a Magnet hospital for nursing excellence. The hospital offers comprehensive services across heart and vascular, neurosciences, neurosurgery, urology, oncology, spine care, advanced imaging, behavioral health, maternity, and women’s health, including a neonatal intensive care unit.
