Health Care Technician (Student Health Service, Norfolk, VA)
Job Type: Hourly
Overview: To perform clinical laboratory testing which assists in the diagnosis of pathological conditions at Student Health Services.

- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with multi‑disciplinary staff.
- Demonstrated ability to perform varied clinical laboratory analysis.
- Demonstrated skills in proper specimen collection, including patient preparation, transportation and storage of specimens.
- Working knowledge of reagent stability and storage.
- Demonstrated skills in implementing quality control policies and procedures of the laboratory.
- Demonstrated knowledge of factors that influence test results.
- Demonstrated skills to assess and verify the validity of patient test results through the evaluation of quality control sample values prior to reporting patient test results.
- Basic computer skills.
- Some experience in clinical laboratory testing.
- Some experience in performing CBC's, mono antibody, urine pregnancy, rapid strep, urinalysis, rapid flu, whole blood glucose, sed rates and wet preps.
- Laboratory testing in an out‑patient facility.
- MLT or MT ASCP certified or equivalent experience, education, or training.
- Phlebotomy skills.
- Associate Degree in chemical, physical, biological, or medical laboratory technology or equivalent training, education or experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Hourly wage commensurate with education and experience.
- Hourly employees are restricted to working 29 hours per week on average or 1500 hours in total in the May 1 – April 30 period.

- Position is designated as sensitive; a fingerprint‑based criminal history check will be required.
- Working hours are 3:00pm to 7:00pm Monday through Thursday, with additional hours available as needed.
