The City of Norfolk’s Parking Division is an enterprise fund, which falls under the Department of General Services. The Parking Division operates over 19,000 public parking spaces located in 14 garages, 10 lots, and more than 500 street spaces.
The Department of General Services, Parking Division, is seeking a Parking Enforcement Officer (Meter Monitor). Parking Enforcement Officers enforce city parking and vehicle registration regulations, issue citations and facilitates the towing of vehicles, and testify in court regarding traffic violations.
Responsibilities- Enforces City Code by patrolling streets and parking areas in a City vehicle or on foot, checking for expired meters and illegally parked vehicles, issuing citations, and providing information to the public.
- Facilitates the towing of vehicles by contacting the parking ticket office, verifying that the vehicle has three or more outstanding tickets and remaining with the vehicle until it is towed.
- Provides court testimony by presenting information about the traffic violation and answering questions.
- Performs work outside in variable weather conditions.
- Performs essential assignments as defined by City policy and will be required to work special assignments during emergencies such as inclement weather and events.
- Communicates with the public and must possess good verbal communication skills.
Required
- Six months of experience.
- This position requires attention to detail, including the ability to interpret signage and compile data to complete citations and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred:
- Prefer 6 months of experience in writing citations, background in security, prior Enforcement Parking Officer, Meter Monitor, former Police Officer, or Security Officer.
- Valid Driver's License required. A DMV transcript dated within 30 days will be required if selected for hire.
