Position Overview
The Field Engineer, Electronics provides senior-level technical and operational support to Commander, Naval Air Forces (CNAF) in direct support of aircraft carrier readiness, maintenance, modernization, and lifecycle sustainment. This position supports the CNAF CVN Readiness Operations Center (ROC) and associated Integrated Project Teams (IPTs) by delivering expert analysis, troubleshooting, readiness assessments, and engineering coordination for shipboard electronic combat systems.
The Field Engineer serves as a technical liaison between ship’s force, TYCOM staff, maintenance activities, and modernization stakeholders to ensure aircraft carrier electronic systems remain fully mission capable across all phases of the Optimized Fleet Response Plan (OFRP) and Global Maritime Response Plan (GMRP).
Primary Duties and Responsibilities Electronic Systems & Combat Systems ReadinessProvide subject matter expertise for shipboard electronic combat systems, including radar, electronic warfare (EW), communications, and associated combat systems.
Track, assess, and report system operational availability and mission capability in support of CNAF readiness reporting requirements.
Perform testing, troubleshooting, validation, and technical assessment of shipboard electronic systems aboard CVN-class aircraft carriers.
Identify system deficiencies, risks, and trends; develop technical recommendations to improve readiness, reliability, and sustainment.
Support CNAF ROC readiness assessments by collecting, analyzing, and validating electronic systems data related to training, maintenance, logistics, and personnel impacts.
Assist with Carrier Readiness Calls (CRC) and readiness briefings, providing accurate, data-driven assessments of electronic system status.
Utilize data analysis and predictive modeling techniques to anticipate system failures and enable proactive maintenance actions.
Support integrated modernization and repair planning, including Ship Change Documents (SCDs), Ship Alterations (S/As), and availability work packages.
Participate in design reviews, configuration audits, and system validations to ensure electronic systems align with approved baselines and PESTO-N requirements.
Assist in updating and maintaining configuration and logistics databases, including Life Cycle Resource Systems (LCRS) and CDM repositories (as applicable).
Provide engineering input for feasibility studies, system assessments, Justification Cost Forms (JCFs), and technical evaluations related to electronic systems.
Support Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) activities, including equipment validation, logistics documentation updates, and readiness impact assessments.
Develop or review technical documentation, reports, and briefing materials for CNAF leadership and readiness stakeholders.
Support training assessments and readiness reporting related to electronic systems impacting shipboard training cycles.
Coordinate with ship’s force, TYCOM, NAVSEA, RMCs, and other stakeholders to resolve electronic systems readiness issues.
Ensure all work complies with applicable NAVSEA instructions, CNAF policies, and safety requirements.
Note: Contractor personnel shall not perform work in posted radiation areas, handle radioactive materials, or conduct analysis on systems restricted under NAVSEA Instruction C9210.4 (series).
Experience:
Minimum of 8 years of experience supporting shipboard electronic combat systems, with emphasis on radar, electronic warfare, and communications systems.
At least 5 years of direct aircraft carrier (CVN) experience performing testing, troubleshooting, and operational support of shipboard systems.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
A U.S.
-issued Professional Engineer (PE) license may be accepted in lieu of the degree.
Experience supporting CNAF, TYCOM, NAVSEA, or carrier strike group readiness organizations.
Familiarity with OFRP, GMRP, JFMM, 3-M Systems, and carrier readiness reporting processes.
Experience supporting modernization availabilities, RCOH planning, or major carrier maintenance events.
Strong technical writing and briefing skills for senior Navy leadership.
Services performed at government facilities, onboard aircraft carriers, and at other locations as required in support of designated CNAF activities.
