Position: Hot Work Coordinator (1st Shift)

Job Description

Accomplish duties and responsibilities as Hot Work Coordinator (HWC) in accordance with NAVSEA standard item 009-08, having the sole function of coordinating hot work notification and execution for all contractor hot work performed daily during assigned ship repair project. Receive, manage, and process hot work permits with ships force and contractor personnel, being the central point of contact in processing and coordinating all shipboard hot work.

Maintain required daily logs of hot work being conducted onboard ship, being accountable for knowing all hot work in progress at any given day and time, documenting hot work start and end times for assigned shift.

The HWC attends meetings daily with project team/contractors/ships force/customer, addressing hot work conflicts of various contractors and shipboard work, and participates in Fire Safety Council (FSC) meetings in providing hot work information as requested. Work and communicate with assigned ship repair Project management team, trade and subcontractor personnel, and Government AIT groups the limitations of daily submitted hot-work permits and the limitations of same-day hot work permit submittal.

Prioritize hot work allocation based on ship project Integrated Production Schedule (IPS) and de-conflict production work by ship compartment areas in support of ship safety and project team direction.

Responsibilities
  • Generate and submit required reports via Condition Found Report (CFR) documenting the weekly recap of hot work permits submitted and executed, with related information of those hot work permits and why they were not executed as planned. Work with the project team IPS to identify and summarize in a report the two‑week forecast of planned hot work and submit as a required report.
  • Work with designated ship's force hot work responsible representatives, the ship’s Fire Marshall, in reviewing and submitting planned daily hot work permits, addressing any concerns from ship’s force on the safety requirements, and communicating with applicable hot work teams for safety awareness and production work de‑confliction.
  • Understand the IPS and ensure hot work permits are not scheduled during events where hot work would be compromised (painting, ammo transfer, fuel transfer, etc.). De‑conflict any issues/discrepancies with each hot work permit to the Hot Work Supervisor and Ships Management Team as required. Discuss daily any issues/concerns regarding hot work with the project team, Supervisor and Ships Force.
  • Perform job duties in the shipyard environment, exposed to shipboard production‑generated noise and walking through production work areas onboard ship with PPE and safety awareness at all times. Daily work areas are onboard ship compartments, meeting with designated representatives responsible for the planned hot work, documenting start and end times of hot work being conducted for assigned shift and maintaining daily hot work log as required.
Required

Education, Experience, & Skills
  • High school or equivalent degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the trade.
  • Ability to obtain a government access badge.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge in the relevant trade.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, supervise, and direct the work of other employees in the relevant trade or industry.
  • Discretion and judgment in making operations and personnel decisions.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs and similar software.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

Electrical experience and temp services (setting up electrical power, ventilation air handling, lighting, fire protection systems, and compressed air services). Knowledge of NAVSEA standard.

Pay Information

Full‑Time Salary Range: $44,033 – $70,454
