Position: Hot Work Coordinator (2nd Shift)

Overview

Job Description: Accomplish duties and responsibilities as Hot Work Coordinator (HWC) in accordance with NAVSEA standard item 009-08, with the sole function of coordinating hot work notification and execution for all contractor hot work on the assigned ship repair project.

Responsibilities
  • Receive, manage, and process hot work permits with ships force and contractor personnel, serving as the central point of contact in processing and coordinating all shipboard hot work.
  • Maintain daily logs of hot work being conducted onboard, be accountable for knowing all hot work in progress on any given day, and document start and end times for the assigned shift.
  • Attend daily meetings with the project team, contractors, ships force, and customer; address hot work conflicts of various contractors and shipboard work; participate in Fire Safety Council (FSC) meetings to provide hot work information as requested.
  • Collaborate with the project management team, trade and subcontractor personnel, and Government AIT groups on the limitations of daily submitted hot-work permits and same-day permit submittal; prioritize hot work allocation based on the ship project Integrated Production Schedule (IPS) and de-conflict production work by ship compartment areas to support safety and project direction.
  • Generate and submit required reports via Condition Found Report (CFR), including a weekly recap of hot work permits submitted and executed, with related information and reasons for permits not executed; work with the IPS to identify and summarize a two-week forecast of planned hot work and submit as a required report.
  • Coordinate with designated ships force hot work representatives and the ship’s Fire Marshall to review and submit planned daily hot work permits; address safety concerns from ships force and communicate with applicable hot work teams for safety awareness and production work de-confliction; perform duties in accordance with the Hot Work Coordinator procedures and BAE Operations Procedure; review and become knowledgeable of BAE Hot Work Operations Procedure.
  • Understand the IPS and what project managers are working on daily to ensure hot work permits are not active during events where hot work would be secured (e.g., painting, ammo transfer, fuel transfer); de-conflict issues with the Hot Work Supervisor and Ships Management Team as required; discuss daily issues/concerns regarding hot work with the project team, supervisor, and ships force. The HWC role is vital to project schedule and budget performance, with safety as the top priority;

    ensure permit accuracy prior to submission to ships force.
  • Work in a shipyard environment exposed to noise, and walk through production areas onboard ships with PPE and safety awareness at all times; document start/end times of hot work for the assigned shift and maintain a daily hot work log.
Qualifications
  • High school or equivalent degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the trade.
  • Must be able to obtain a government access badge.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge in the relevant trade.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule, supervise, and direct the work of other employees in the relevant trade or industry.
  • Ability to use discretion and judgment in making operations and personnel decisions.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office programs and similar software.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Electrical experience and temp services (setting up electrical power, ventilation, lighting, fire protection systems, and compressed air services); knowledge of NAVSEA standard.
Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $44,033 - $70,454
