We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Programs department. This position is located in Norfolk, Virginia. We are looking for two (2) Area Manager 1. The hours are Monday - Friday and weekends as required.
Responsibilities- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE (Job Description)
The Area Managers are responsible for the management of multiple work items from the Planning Phase through final milestone, availability, and delivery to the customer. They require in-depth knowledge of Combatant and Non-Combatant vessels and coordinate multiple subcontractors and organic trade activities to meet schedule objectives. Area Managers represent the company and act as the point of contact for assigned work items with customers.
PositionDemands (Education/Training)
- Typically has a BA/BS in Engineering, Computer Science, Science or related field, or AA/AS plus 2 years directly related experience, or 4 years directly related experience. Prior military service would be considered directly related, including attending a Service Academy.
- Preferred shipboard repair experience within a public or private shipyard. Prior US Navy military experience in an engineering or related field would qualify.
- Experience managing technical personnel within complex activities or shipboard availabilities.
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, Excel, Word and PowerPoint; ability to navigate in a computer server environment.
- Experience working with a Cost Type or Fixed Type Contract.
- Must have a valid driver s license, reliable transportation, and ability to carry a business rider if necessary.
- Ability to gain access to government facilities and obtain a security clearance once employed by NASSCO-Norfolk.
- Ability to work nights and weekends during peak workloads or as requested by Senior Management; willing to travel and manage ship repair availabilities in remote locations for extended periods.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment, including a respirator.
Common physical requirements include carrying, lifting, walking, climbing, pulling, crawling, sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, talking, and vision/hearing requirements. Visual and other requirements are described in detail in the job description. Must be able to go aboard marine vessels and the dry dock, climb ladders, work in tanks and confined spaces, and wear PPE. The environment can be dirty, dusty, hot or cold, and noisy.
WorkingRelationships
- Reports to the assigned Ship Manager or Lead Manager for the project.
- Maintains professional outsourcing relationships with Teaming Partners/Sub Contractors, tracking milestones and work completion.
- Develops strong relationships with other NASSCO departments to ensure smooth execution of availabilities and coordinate support.
- Displays strong interpersonal skills to interact with and manage others.
- Ensures all project information from customers is forwarded to all departments and entered into the appropriate management data systems for internal reviews.
- Implements project management processes and tools by contributing to guidelines to support the project.
- Assists the Planning Department in developing project proposals, job estimates, and schedules.
- Leads regular cross-functional Project Team meetings with company personnel, subcontractors, and customer representatives.
- Develops detailed plans to monitor complex work items; develops task lists and work effort assessments with short and long-term impacts.
- Identifies changes in scope to support planning across Planning, Estimating, Production, and Contracts, including customer inputs for reassessing, renegotiating, and amending scope, schedules, and budgets.
