We are seeking an Environmental Construction Specialist to work on Electric Utility Construction Projects. This is a field position requiring experience with environmental compliance related to land clearing and linear construction projects. - Regulatory Compliance:
Provide environmental compliance and construction oversight on transmission site development and linear transmission line projects; environmental oversight and inspections for NPDES and SWPPP; ensure compliance with permits and regulations; document conditions for permits and environmental requirements. - Field Operations:
Perform erosion and sediment, stormwater management, and pollution prevention inspections; interpret plans and drawings; promote good public relations. - Crew Oversight:
Attend pre-construction and status meetings; oversee site development crews and BMP contractors; ensure identification of wetlands and sensitive areas is known to crews. - Stakeholder & Public Relations:
Monitor project status and communicate daily with utility client, contractors, landowners, and the public. - Subject Matter Expert Consulting:
Assist in developing recommendations on future ROW maintenance requirements. - Additional Responsibilities:
Drive company vehicle safely to work locations; assume other duties as assigned.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Construction Management, Building Science, or related field.
- 1-5 years’ experience in site development work and permitting utility construction.
- Solid understanding of NPDES CGP SWPPP implementation and inspections.
- Stormwater/erosion control inspector certifications as applicable (FSESCI, CESSWI, CEPSCI or equivalent) for the relevant region.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrains.
- Strong public relations skills and ability to interface with the public.
- Willingness to work alone.
- Basic computer skills and a valid driver’s license.
- Substantial background in Electric Transmission Construction, Pipeline, or Utility field.
- SWPPP book knowledge and related certifications.
- CESSWI or similar credential validated for inspections.
- Previous construction crew oversight experience.
- GIS experience and knowledge of ANSI Z133 safety standards.
- Military background is a plus; bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
Work primarily outdoors in energy corridors near power lines or pipelines, including remote locations and urban areas. Be prepared for varied terrain, weather conditions, and exposure to noise, dust, and other hazards. The role may require travel between sites and limited time in an indoor office. Physical demands include walking up to 10 miles per day, standing, crouching, lifting (up to 60 lbs occasionally), and operation of field equipment.
