Overview
Burgess & Niple is seeking a Mechanical Engineer (HVAC) in our Norfolk office to be a part of our national team.
Responsibilities- Work under the supervision of the MEP Section Director.
- Efficiently develop and implement design procedures and methods.
- Prepare mechanical layouts and detailed designs for a variety of new construction and renovation projects, maintaining high standards of accuracy and completeness. Stay updated with the latest advancements in design software, system design, and HVAC equipment technology, and apply this knowledge to enhance project outcomes.
- Provide design deliverables including construction drawings and specifications, design calculations and analysis, while assisting professional engineers in a team environment.
- Perform technical writing and cost estimates for studies and reports.
- Perform HVAC load calculations and energy modeling calculations.
- Perform site visits to obtain field dimensions and other relevant project data.
- Regularly interact with internal and external project teams to provide guidance, direction, and status updates.
- Attend internal and external project meetings to gather firsthand information and contribute to professional growth.
- Coordinate with project teams to meet deadlines and ensure project deliverables are achieved within budget and to the satisfaction of clients.
- Perform construction phase services, including attending on-site meetings, answering RFIs, and reviewing shop drawings.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to less experienced staff, fostering a collaborative and educational work environment.
- Ensure strict adherence to quality control guidelines.
- Possess an outgoing and positive attitude. Be dependable and meet all assigned project deadlines.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering technology or equivalent from an ABET accredited program
- 5+ years of experience and PE designation.
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with AutoCAD and Revit to develop mechanical design drawings.
- Proficient using Trace 700 to perform load calculations and life cycle cost analyses.
- Experience and knowledge in the design of chiller/boiler plants, VRF systems, water-source heat pumps, heat recovery systems, air handling units, and DOAS systems.
- Experience with design of DDC controls for major building systems.
