Job DescriptionThe Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the Frank Batten College of Engineering and Technology (FBCET) at Old Dominion University (ODU) invites applications for a senior‑level faculty position at the rank of full professor in bioelectric engineering. Exceptionally qualified applicants will be considered for an endowed appointment. The anticipated start date is Fall 2026. Candidates with a foundation in bioelectrical engineering, biomedical engineering, biophysics, or related fields with research in nanosecond pulsed electric fields (nsPEF) are strongly encouraged.
Priority will be given to work intersecting bioelectrics with medical imaging, drug gene delivery, tissue engineering, electrotherapy, neuromodulation, neural interfaces, cancer treatment, and AI/ML integration in bioelectrics research. The home department is ECE; the candidate will also hold a core faculty affiliation with the Institute for Engineering in Medicine, Health & Human Performance (EnMed) and the Frank Reidy Research Center for Bioelectrics (FRRCBE).

- Develop and sustain an externally funded research program.
- Teach electrical engineering/biomedical engineering courses to a diverse student body.
- Advise graduate and undergraduate students.
- Perform service obligations including committee service.
- Collaborate with faculty in ECE, FBCET and university partners such as Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences.
Education and Experience
- Earned Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Biophysics, or a closely related field by May 2025.
- Eligible for appointment at the rank of full professor with tenure.
- Strong publication record in peer‑reviewed journals and conferences.
- Sustained record in research and externally funded grants commensurate with experience.
- Relevant research in bioelectrics.
- Expressed interest in leveraging complementary research expertise at ODU.
