Norfolk Collegiate School seeks a creative, collaborative, and student-centered Middle and Upper School Art Teacher for the 2026–2027 academic year. This position teaches a range of visual arts and production-based courses to students in grades 6–12, fostering both technical skill development and artistic expression within a rigorous college-preparatory environment.
The ideal candidate will have experience teaching multiple visual art disciplines, demonstrate strong classroom management and communication skills, and be committed to creating a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that supports students at varying levels of artistic experience.
Key Responsibilities- Teach a range of Middle and Upper School arts courses, which may include digital art and design, mixed media, theatrical design and production, drawing, painting, or other advanced studio offerings
- Develop and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate curricula that emphasize both creative exploration and technical skill building
- Assess student work using clear criteria and provide constructive feedback to support growth and mastery
- Maintain a safe, organized, and well-managed studio environment
- Support student exhibitions, displays, and other opportunities to showcase student artwork
- Collaborate with colleagues within the Arts Department and across divisions
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues
- Bachelor’s degree in Art, Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)
- Prior teaching experience at the middle and/or upper school level preferred
- Demonstrated ability to teach a variety of visual arts and production-based courses
- Strong organizational, communication, and classroom management skills
- A collaborative mindset and commitment to ongoing professional growth
- Enthusiasm for working with adolescents in an independent school setting
