Overview
The Psychology department at Old Dominion University invites applicants for an Assistant Professor, Clinical Psychology. This is an annual, 10-month Tenure Track appointment. The faculty member will conduct research, teach, and mentor students in psychology generally and clinical psychology specifically.
Responsibilities- Conduct high quality, programmatic research.
- Seek external research funding.
- Teach undergraduate courses to support the undergraduate psychology curriculum at ODU.
- Teach graduate courses in the Psychology Department.
- Mentor Ph.D. students.

Candidates must have a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, or a closely related field, by the position start date.
They must demonstrate strong potential for developing an independent, funded research program and show accomplishments in and/or potential for quality teaching and mentoring at the graduate and undergraduate level.
Preferred Qualifications- Candidates who have a doctoral degree from a program accredited by APA, PCSAS, CPA, or another clinical psychology accrediting body by the position start date.
- A research program that complements and expands that of current faculty within the Department of Psychology.
- License eligible as a psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

About the Department
ODU's Department of Psychology is in the College of Sciences and includes 28 full-time faculty members, approximately 1,200 undergraduate majors, and 60 students in our graduate programs. The department offers a terminal Master s degree in Psychology and a Ph.D. with concentrations in Clinical Psychology, Health Psychology, and Human Factors. ODU has led the administration of the APA-accredited Virginia Consortium Program in Clinical Psychology, training doctoral students in clinical psychology for over 43 years.
Now, ODU has submitted to obtain APA accreditation as an independent Ph.D. program, with a site visit anticipated in fall 2026. Faculty research is currently funded by NIH, NSF, SAMHSA, NASA, and other entities. Areas of research collaboration among faculty in the Psychology Department include clinical science, health, diversity, and technology.
