Job Description

The English Department at Old Dominion University invites applicants for part-time Adjunct instructional faculty to teach 100- and 200-level sections of in-person General Education Composition and Literature courses. We are seeking individuals for Fall 2024, but this posting may remain open for additional applications throughout the  academic year. Selected individuals will be hired as part of an adjunct pool and will be utilized as needed based on course coverage.

The greatest need is typically for daytime, on-campus courses between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM, primarily General Education Composition, with occasional General Education Literature.

Minimum Qualifications

M.A., M.F.A., or Ph.D. in English, or M.A. or Ph.D. in a closely-related field with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in English courses.

Required Experience, Knowledge, and Skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Preparation and/or experience teaching introductory-level courses in literature and/or composition at the college level.
Preferred Qualifications

Availability to teach in-person on Old Dominion University  Norfolk, VA campus between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM, and one or more of the following:

  • Literature: ability to teach across genre and period specialties with a diverse selection of texts and voices.
  • Composition: expertise in writing studies pedagogies such as WAC/WID, multi-modality, anti-racism, and/or universal design for learning.
