Support Technician
The City of Norfolk's Department of Public Works is currently seeking a Support Technician that provides essential administrative and clerical support to the Design Division, ensuring efficient office operations and assisting with financial and recordkeeping tasks.
The Department of Public Works oversees the construction, maintenance, and management of essential infrastructure that plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for Norfolk's residents, businesses, and visitors. This encompasses the supervision of the city's stormwater system, street network, waste management, and recycling systems.
The Design Division procures and manages design and construction for over $100 million in Capital Improvement Projects. These projects include new or rehabilitative work to City buildings, bridges, bulkheads, streets and drainage systems, parking garages, parks, beaches, navigational channels, and other infrastructure.
Departmental Hiring Salary Range: $42,016 - $48,318 Essential Functions Include But Are Not Limited To- Provide comprehensive administrative and clerical support to ensure efficient departmental operations.
- Assist with payroll and financial processes, including processing invoices, reviewing records and preparing documentation.
- Coordinate and maintain employee records, benefits, and related documentation.
- Manage office operations, including scheduling, correspondence, filing systems, and supply inventory.
- Serve as a point of contact for internal and external inquiries, providing information and assistance as needed.
- Support travel and meeting arrangements, including processing related forms and reimbursements.
- Oversee and update work orders, maintenance requests, and departmental databases.
- Prepare reports, maintain accurate records, and perform data entry for various systems.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support departmental goals and initiatives.
Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency. Associate's degree in Business Management, Public Administration, or a closely related field preferred.
One year of general office work experience. A bachelor's degree or above may substitute work experience (as approved by the department).

Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to perform basic math calculations and maintain accurate records.
Requires a valid driver’s license.
