Role Overview
We are recruiting a committed and engaging Functional Skills English Tutor to join the education team at HMP Bure. You will deliver high‑quality English teaching to small groups of adult learners, supporting them to build confidence, develop essential communication skills, and achieve recognised qualifications.
This role plays a vital part in helping learners progress both personally and academically. You will create structured learning plans, deliver inclusive and motivating lessons, and ensure each individual receives the guidance and support needed to succeed.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning Delivery

Deliver engaging Functional Skills English sessions to small groups of learners.
Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons that support a variety of learning styles and abilities.
Embed practical literacy skills relevant to everyday life and future employment opportunities.
Track, assess, and record learner progress, providing clear and constructive feedback.
Maintain a positive, inclusive, and motivating learning environment. Learner Support & Progression

Develop individual learning plans aligned with curriculum requirements and learner goals.
Identify barriers and implement tailored support strategies to maximise achievement.
Encourage learner confidence, participation, and resilience. Quality & Compliance

Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement initiatives.
Participate in quality assurance processes and uphold high teaching standards.
Ensure safeguarding, equality, diversity, and health & safety principles are embedded within all learning activity.
Work collaboratively with colleagues and prison staff to ensure smooth programme delivery.

Essential Criteria

Level 3 qualification in English or equivalent.
Strong subject knowledge and practical experience within English or communication‑based fields.
Experience delivering English training or teaching in an education or vocational setting.
Ability to use varied teaching methods to engage and motivate learners.
Desirable Criteria

A recognised teaching or assessing qualification (AET, PTLLS, CAVA, DTLLS or equivalent).
Experience working in prison education or alternative learning environments.
Willingness to work towards a teaching/assessing qualification if not already held (full support provided during probation).
