JOB TITLE:PRESCHOOL PRINCIPAL
2026 - 2027 School year
Requirements- Master's Degree with a major in educational administration
- Valid state certification in administration and supervision;
Special Education endorsement preferred - Minimum of 9 college credit hours in Early Childhood Education
- Experience in school administration and supervision preferred, but not required
- A minimum of five years of teaching experience
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

Job GoalLead all phases of operations within the school, including: buildings and grounds, supervision and evaluation of classified and certificated staff; coordination of activities and accountability for curriculum and instructional decisions within the school building, utilization of leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to promote a safe and nurturing learning environment conducive to the educational development of all students.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT230 days; salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education
EVALUATIONEvaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the district’s Personnel Evaluation Policy
Essential Duties- Consistent and punctual “on-site” attendance at the worksite is an essential job function
- Serves as the instructional leader of the school, ensuring the implementation of best practices in the areas of curriculum, assessment, and instruction.
- Facilitates planning of Region Team #29 meetings and serves in a Co-Chair role
- Coordinates birth to five special education referral process
- Oversees early childhood grants, including development and budget
- Plans training events, coordinates the use of trainers, locations, and materials to ensure training is delivered effectively
- Collaborates with internal and external partners to strengthen the professional development opportunities for early childhood education and care providers in Norfolk
- Works with colleagues and Head Start teams to develop and strengthen the skills of professionals serving the range of children from birth through kindergarten entry and their families
- Serves on internal and external groups, task forces, and committees.
- Oversees a program of instructional supervision and evaluation, including classroom and teaching observations in accordance with board policies
- Maintains a positive school climate and effectively manages student discipline.
- Evaluates existing programs and practices, including curriculum content and pilot programs
- Supervises and evaluates personnel; assesses employee performance. Provides guidance, accountability, and support as needed.
- Leads in the selection of new teachers and classified personnel
- Implements curriculum and establishes educational objectives consistent with district goals
- Assures that teachers are assigned to areas in which they are endorsed and ensures that teachers are making required progress toward completion of provisional endorsements, if applicable
- Keeps students, staff, parents, community, and central office administrators informed of building activities;
Responds to parent and patron complaints effectively and efficiently. - Maintains accountability and proper documentation for the school budget, support services, communications, professional development, and student discipline
- Monitors expenditures and ensures good fiscal management of appropriated school funds, follows approved purchasing procedures, and maintains furniture and equipment inventories
