Vital Core Health Strategies (VCHS), an industry leader in Correctional Health Care, has an opening for a Full-Time Substance Addiction Counselor at MCI-Framingham in Framingham, MA and MCI-Norfolk in Norfolk, MA. This position requires travel between Framingham, MA and Norfolk, MA.

Responsibilities
  • Provide crisis stabilization, conduct intakes and ongoing evaluations for patients in a multidisciplinary Behavioral Health Unit.
  • Deliver substance use treatment and collaborate with medical, psychiatric and other professionals.
  • Develop treatment and discharge plans with Qualified Behavioral Health Professionals.
  • Perform individual and group therapeutic interventions; administer and interpret pre/post-tests and surveys as indicated.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure timely documentation of records and reports.
  • Educate individuals on effects of substance use on health and life.
  • Participate in monthly behavioral health calls and coordinate with medical team to determine overall treatment.
  • Coordinate discharge planning and aftercare in collaboration with community providers.
  • Utilize clinical skills (e.g., CBT, Motivational Interviewing) and provide crisis management as needed.
Minimum Requirements
  • Graduation from a Bachelor s level program or higher.
  • Minimum of 2 years employment in a clinician/counselor/social work capacity in a public or private agency or equivalent preferred.
  • Must have a substance use certification (e.g., CAC, CADC, CAADC, LADC).
  • Must receive a satisfactory background investigation report.
Position Summary

The Substance Addiction Counselor will work as part of a multidisciplinary team on the Behavioral Health Unit to provide a proactive and collaborative approach in serving justice-involved individuals with varying levels of substance use/abuse issues. The counselor will collaborate with all disciplines to attain effectiveness in serving the patient population.

Essential Functions
  • Provide crisis stabilization, intakes, ongoing evaluations, and consultation to in-house and community services.
  • Assess level of functioning, strengths and weaknesses related to primary substance use diagnosis.
  • Orient individuals to treatment process and program goals.
  • Deliver and reinforce evidence-based treatments/curricula.
  • Develop treatment and discharge plans with Behavioral Health Professionals.
  • Perform individual and group therapies as appropriate; administer assessments as indicated.
  • Maintain confidentiality and timely documentation.
  • Educate individuals on effects of substances and provide appropriate documentation and reporting.
  • Participate in team communications to determine overall treatment and discharge planning.
  • Assist in planning and implementing program goals and documentation.
  • Utilize crisis management and evidence-based practices (e.g., CBT, Motivational Interviewing).
  • Provide excellent and timely documentation; ability to make independent clinical decisions with supervisory support as needed.
