Job Summary
The Safety Specialist supports Plant Leadership and Human Resources in the implementation of safety programs, including training, incident investigations, and safety reporting. This role assists Plant Leadership in executing and maintaining safety protocols by inspecting work areas, identifying hazards, and ensuring compliance with safety manuals and guidelines. Additional responsibilities include assisting with employee injury interviews, maintaining first aid stations, and investigating workplace safety incidents.
Responsibilities- Follow and comply with all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
- Assist in delivering safety training for new and existing employees.
- Support the execution of internal and external safety training programs to address and close competency gaps.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to identify and support employee safety training needs.
- Organize and administer Alchemy training programs to meet specific training requirements.
- Update, maintain, and track training aids, including manuals and training materials.
- Present safety training programs using recognized instructional techniques and tools.
- Facilitate learning through multiple delivery methods, including classroom instruction and virtual training.
- Assist management with reporting plant-wide safety training outcomes and provide feedback to program participants and leadership.
- Support management in maintaining accurate employee training records.
- Coordinate logistics for training activities, including venues, materials, and equipment, as assigned by management.
- Maintain training records related to OSHA compliance and company-required training.
- Assist with facilitating Safety, Security, and HAZMAT training for all personnel.
- Support CPR training and employee hearing tests.
- Assist in planning, scheduling, and delivering Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) education programs.
- Support the administration of programs that ensure employee compliance with OSHA and other regulatory agencies.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA standards, emergency action plans, fire prevention, hazard communication, and personal protective equipment (PPE) programs.
- Establish rapport with associates to support investigations, identify safety concerns, and report findings to leadership.
- Maintain records related to electrical safety, machine guarding, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) requirements.
- Assist with accident investigations and root cause analysis of safety incidents.
- Provide support to other departments as needed and perform additional duties as assigned by management.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior training and/or safety experience required; experience in a food manufacturing environment preferred.
- Working knowledge of OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) guidelines.
- Flexibility to work varied schedules, including early start times and weekends.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Availability to be on call 24/7 in the event of an emergency.
- Valid driver’s license required.
This job operates in a production plant, shipping area and office environment, and outdoors. The employee is occasionally exposed to facility elements such as noise, dust, fumes, and odors. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
