Job Overview
The Riverside County Fire Department (RCFD) seeks a Fire Safety Specialist in Norco. This role may also fill other countywide vacancies.
Responsibilities- Review plans and specifications to ensure compliance with safety protocols and applicable codes for new and existing buildings, facilities, fire protection systems, and industrial processes.
- Provide professional advice to departmental staff on fire protection requirements and procedures.
- Conduct site inspections and perform related duties as required.
Open to all applicants. Current County of Riverside and/or RCFD employees may be considered before other applicants, depending on application volume.
Qualifications and CertificationsCompetitive candidates will have completed one or all of the California Office of the State Fire Marshal Fire Inspector Series I courses (IA, IB, IC, and ) at the time of application. Additional certifications from the International Code Council, National Fire Protection Association, or other recognized agencies may be considered. Completion of the Fire Inspector Series II courses, the Plans Examiner Series, and the Penal Code 832 course is highly desired.
LicensingPossession of a valid California Driver’s License.
Education and Experience• High‑school graduation or a certificate of proficiency issued by the California State Board of Education or a satisfactory score on a GED examination.
• Two years performing fire safety inspections, building construction inspections, or plans examination. An associate degree in fire protection or building construction technology can substitute one year of required experience.
Within one year of employment, candidates must obtain a valid Fire Inspector I Certification issued by the California State Fire Marshal, the International Code Council, or an equivalent body. Within two years of employment, candidates are expected to obtain valid Fire Inspector II and Plans Examiner Certifications issued by the California State Fire Marshal or the International Code Council.
