This position will be filled at either the 1 or 2 level depending on the applicant’s qualifications and job experience. It is recommended that you apply for all levels if you are qualified.

Division of Juvenile Justice – Juvenile Probation Officer 1/2

Location:

Nome, Alaska (113 W Front St, Suite #215). The role also involves supervising probationers in Shaktoolik, Savoonga, Elim, Gambell, Teller, Shishmaref, Golovin, Koyuk, St. Michael, Stebbins, White Mountain, Unalakleet, Brevig Mission, Little Diomede, and more. The position requires travel and flexible scheduling.

What You Will Be Doing

Influence, motivate, and steer young offenders to work toward community restoration and develop the competencies needed for productive, crime‑free adult lives. The supervision and accountability‑based services are challenging but produce long‑term benefits for families and youth.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Case Management
    :
    Supervise and manage a caseload of juvenile offenders, ensuring compliance with court orders, probation terms, and completion of rehabilitative goals.
  • Assessment
    :
    Conduct comprehensive assessments of juveniles to determine risk factors, needs, and intervention strategies.
  • Counseling and Support
    :
    Provide counseling, guidance, and support to juveniles and their families, promoting positive behavioral changes.
  • Monitoring and Reporting
    :
    Monitor juvenile activities, conduct home visits, and submit reports to the court regarding progress and recommendations.
  • Collaboration
    :
    Work with legal, social services, and community organizations to develop intervention plans.

Working Environment

Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with on‑call duties, after hours, weekends, and holidays. The role demands travel to outlying communities and participation in escort and flexible scheduling.
