What You Will Be Doing
As the Law Office Assistant 3 for the Nome District Attorney’s Office, you will provide advanced administrative support to attorneys, process legal documents, perform data entry, provide office management, supervise support staff, and perform administrative functions such as processing financial paperwork, human resource needs, making travel arrangements, maintaining equipment, and collaborating with various individuals and outside agencies to accomplish tasks.

Benefits of Joining Our Team- You will have an opportunity to provide a leadership role to the law office assistant staff in Nome and Kotzebue District Attorney’s Offices. You will engage with the court, prepare for hearings and trials, and provide vital support to everyone involved.
- You can expect a 40 hour work week; 12 paid holidays; personal leave accrual starting at 6 hours per pay period (about 21 days annually) and increasing with years of service. The general office hours are 8:00AM to 4:30PM but there is flexibility in establishing your regular hours around core business hours.
- The Nome Attorney's Office is located at 103 Front Street. The office environment is friendly, fast-paced, and never boring.
- You will be a team leader and work in one or more areas of law in addition to remotely supervising the law office assistant in Kotzebue.

PI01A3 – Law Office Assistant 3
Two years of cumulative experience as a Law Office Assistant with the State of Alaska; OR Three years of clerical experience in a law office, or clerical experience that included regular, proficient use of electronic management information systems and word processing and other standard business software, and experience preparing, reviewing, or processing legal documents such as affidavits, court reports, demand letters, discovery requests or responses, entries of appearances, hearing transcripts, memoranda of advice/instruction, motions, legal opinions, subpoenas, and/or writs.
Substitutions:
A bachelor’s degree in a legal field may substitute for up to 18 months of the required experience. An associate’s degree or specific vocational-technical certification in a legal support career area may substitute for one year of clerical experience in a law office. Vocational-Technical Certification in a business support career area may substitute for up to 6 months of required experience.
Post-secondary education may substitute for up to 6 months of required experience.
Most positions require incumbents to be able to obtain a Notary Public upon hire, and to pass a criminal background check to meet security requirements for using criminal record networks such as APSIN and NCIC/NLETS. If this requirement is present, it will be stated in the vacancy announcement.
