Key Responsibilities
Define and govern enterprise Oracle database architecture for mission-critical banking systems, including standards for scalability, resilience, lifecycle, consolidation, and capacity planning.
Architect HA/DR topologies across data center and disaster recovery sites using Oracle RAC, Data Guard/Active Data Guard, and zero/near-zero downtime patterns (e.g., rolling upgrades, Edition-Based Redefinition).
Lead advanced performance engineering for OLTP-heavy workloads using AWR/ASH, SQL trace, execution plan analysis, wait-event methodology, SQL Monitor, and Real-Time ADDM; establish baselines and performance dashboards.
Diagnose and remediate systemic bottlenecks (I/O, CPU, memory, contention, network latency) and optimize indexing, partitioning, query design, PL/SQL, and connection pooling patterns.
Own RPO/RTO and DR assurance aligned to banking regulatory expectations; plan and execute DR drills/failover simulations, maintain audit-ready evidence, and validate backup/recovery frameworks (RMAN, incremental merge, restore testing).
Drive security hardening and compliance including least privilege/RBAC, TDE, encryption in transit (SSL/TLS), wallet management, data masking for non-prod, and audit support (including regulator-facing readiness).
Increase operational excellence through automation and observability using Shell/Python/Ansible and IaC principles; standardize patch/upgrade/rollback processes; improve MTTD/MTTR via structured incident response.
Lead stakeholder engagement and technical governance across Core Banking, Payments/UPI, Digital Channels, Treasury, Risk/Compliance, and Reporting; mentor senior DBAs and influence architecture decisions through reviews and CABs.
Mandatory (Must-Have)
Experience:
15+ years in enterprise Oracle Database administration/engineering, including 8+ years in architecture design & governance , plus 5+ years supporting banking/financial services platforms.
Core HA/DR expertise: Oracle RAC , Data Guard/Active Data Guard , DR topology design, DR drills, and RPO/RTO ownership for 24x7 environments.
Performance engineering mastery: AWR/ASH diagnostics, SQL tracing, execution plan deep analysis, wait-event methodology, SQL Monitor/Real-Time ADDM; proven tuning for high-TPS OLTP systems.
Backup/Recovery: Expert-level RMAN design, validation, and recovery readiness; experience with multi-terabyte databases.
Oracle architecture depth: Oracle 12c/19c/21c and Oracle Database 26ai architecture knowledge; ASM/storage management; strong understanding of partitioning and compression.
Operations tooling: OEM (Oracle Enterprise Manager) and strong Linux performance fundamentals (e.g., iostat, vmstat, sar, top).
Automation: Hands-on scripting/automation using Shell and/or Python , plus Ansible (or equivalent) to standardize and reduce risk in run operations.
Cloud:
OCI exposure is required (designing, operating, or migrating Oracle database workloads on OCI); ability to align cloud adoption with banking security/compliance needs.
Leadership and communication: Ability to lead Sev1/Sev2 database incidents, deliver executive-ready RCA, and communicate risk/strategy to senior stakeholders including auditors.
