CAREER DESCRIPTIONThe Eligibility Supervisor position is responsible for planning, organizing and supervising the work of staff responsible for determining initial and/or continuing eligibility for one or more benefit assistance programs such as Medi‑Cal, CalWORKs, Food Stamps, Foster Care, General Relief and/or Medical Services for Indigents. Also supervise specialized job functions such as IEVS; and assume other duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSTwo years of experience determining eligibility for one or more public assistance programs such as Medi‑Cal, CalWORKs, General Relief, Foster Care, Food Stamps and Medical Services for Indigents.
THE IDEAL ELIGIBILITY SUPERVISOR WILL HAVE THE ABILITY TO- Plan, assign and supervise the work of subordinate staff.
- Complete eligibility for all grant programs, including Food Stamps, CalWORKs, Foster Care, General Relief, Medical Services for Indigents and/or Medi‑Cal.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff and the general public including persons of different cultures.
- Provide training to staff on computer usage and programmatic and operational policies and regulations.
- Review and understand computer reports and documents and other reference material to assist staff in resolving errors and ensuring program compliance.
- Use available sources of information effectively in determining eligibility.
- Lead a team or group in meeting agency goals.
- Rules and regulations governing eligibility and benefits programs such as CalWORKs, General Relief, Food Stamps, Medi‑Cal, Foster Care and Medical Services for Indigents.
- Functions and principles of public social services agencies.
- Sources of information necessary to determine eligibility of applicants or recipients for various financial assistance programs.
- Public and private community resources available to meet client needs.
- Principles of supervision, training and instructional methods and techniques.

COMPENSATIONFrom $3,139.07 with potential of up to $4,205.07 monthly.
SELECTION PROCEDUREThe Social Services Agency, Human Resources will screen all applications and supplemental materials to identify the most qualified candidates. This is a competitive process; therefore, be thorough in your application and supplemental responses. APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED WITHOUT A COMPLETED SUPPLEMENTAL WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
IMPORTANTIn completing the application, successful candidates will specify their program experience and will identify the amount of time in each program.
WRITTEN EXAM (WEIGHTED 100%)A written test consisting of job‑related, multiple-choice questions will be administered.
ELIGIBLE LISTAfter the testing procedure has been completed, the Social Services Agency, Human Resources Department will establish an eligible list of up to three categories of qualified candidates. Based on the Department's needs, the selection procedure indicated above may be modified. All candidates will be notified of their status in the recruitment process and of any changes in the selection procedure.
