SUMMARY:
Under general supervision; performs public safety services within the City’s Police Department including patrol, K‑9 and motor vehicle safety and other specialty assignments as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the supervision and direction of the Sergeant or designee.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
May exercise supervision over police officer recruits.
- Performs law enforcement activities as a Arizona certified police officer
- Responds to calls for service
- Investigates and enforces City and State criminal codes and laws
- Makes arrests
- Prepares police reports
- Enforces traffic laws
- Provides security checks of residential or business locations
- Conducts traffic control during traffic congestion hours and during vehicle accidents
- Deploys traffic enforcement devices to reduce violations
- Completes statistical traffic reports for the State of Arizona
- May provide specialized services as a K‑9 handler
- May perform dog kennel maintenance; may participates in K‑9 training; and maintain activity logs
- Assists other law enforcement agencies upon request
- Provides court testimony as necessary
- Reports issues or concerns to command staff on daily or other activities
- Coordinates Department operations with other agencies to ensure seamless service to citizens
- Inspects public transportation vehicles to ensure public safety
- Performs routine maintenance of assigned vehicles
- Attends various staff and related meetings
- Returns impounded vehicles to registered owners
- Installs child restraints in public vehicles
- Supports the relationship between the City of Nogales and the general public
- Maintains confidentiality of work‑related issues and City information
- Performs other duties as required or assigned

Experience: - High school diploma or GED equivalent
- One (1) year of law enforcement experience
- OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Spanish Language fluency
- Arizona POST certification
- Arizona State driver’s license
- Successful completion of a background and polygraph examination
- Successful completion of physical testing and examination
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must be 21 years of age or older
Work is performed both in an office and outdoor work environment. May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds. May be exposed to dangerous machinery, potential physical harm, extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals and infectious diseases. Reasonable accommodations will be made as required.
