Senior Epitaxy Equipment Engineer
Location:
Caswell, Northampton
Day Shift: 08:00 – 16:00
Eligibility to work in the UK
You will provide Equipment Engineering support to the Epitaxy Shift Equipment Engineers and Technicians. This will include continuous improvement projects, day-to-day production support, fault finding and repair of production equipment and associated systems, and working with process gas systems including the use of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
Duties:
- Lead equipment improvements, upgrades, and assist with installations.
- Work on MOVPE and associated equipment to minimise production downtime, including phosphorous-trap and gas cylinder changes using SCBA.
- Operate forklift trucks (training provided).
- Oversee chemicals, gases, and spare parts control, including chemical fills and waste management.
- Provide technical direction and instruction to Shift Technicians on procedures, safety, and best practice.
- Support logistics projects (equipment relocation, cleanroom reorganisation, shipping).
- Assist with shutdown activities (some weekend overtime may be required).
- Liaise with equipment and spares suppliers, specialist service providers, and supervise external contractors and field service engineers.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance strategies to maximise equipment utilisation and uptime.
- Adhere to all site safety and environmental procedures.
- Support the site emergency response function.
- Electrical engineering experience including low and high voltage work.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience within a Wafer Fab or Epitaxy Engineering environment.
- HNC or Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent time-served apprenticeship).
- Strong understanding of pneumatic systems and PLC operation.
- Working knowledge of vacuum systems including high-vac principles, pumps, and leak-checking.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical wiring and mechanical schematics.
- Comfortable working with hazardous chemicals and gases.
- Experience with Aixtron MOVPE reactors or other CVD equipment.
- Semiconductor process gas experience including Mass Flow Controllers.
- Experience with dry abatement systems.
