Research Technician

Avantor is looking for an experienced and lab‑savvy Research Technician to join our team based in Cambridge, UK. In this position you'll join a laboratory‑based group responsible for laboratory management, operation of the Bioassay Development Mammalian Tissue Culture Suite, and maintaining team compliance. You'll work with a close‑knit team of four scientists part of the Bioassay Development Group, whose main responsibilities include assay development for sample testing and maintenance of laboratories, supplies, equipment, tissue culture suite, cell stocks, inventories, and provision of cultured cells for assays.

You will belong to our business department Lab and Production Services, supporting large pharmaceutical companies and laboratories worldwide in Research and Development within the Life Sciences industry.

• Develop biochemical and cell‑based potency assays based on drug mode of action and carry out routine sample testing
• Maintain mammalian cell line cultures and frozen stocks
• Review and prepare data from conducted experiments
• Discuss experimental findings at internal and cross‑functional meetings and coordinate with other groups across the business
• Plan future experiments based on customer deadlines and needs

• Education:
  
  A bachelor's degree in life‑science discipline, or equivalent experience of at least one year in a hands‑on laboratory role
• Theoretical and practical knowledge of mammalian cell culturing
• Previous working experience in a life science laboratory environment
• Knowledge and understanding of Good Laboratory Standards (GLS)
• Basic IT skills (including Microsoft Word and Excel)
• Good time‑management skills, ability to flex and handle multiple responsibilities and tasks on a regular basis
• Excellent organisation, prioritising and planning skills

This role will be a full‑time temporary (18‑month FTC) position based in a brand‑new facility at the customer site – The Discovery Centre, Bio‑Medical Campus in Cambridge.
