Position SummaryThe Mechanical Project Lead III is responsible for the day-to-day oversight and execution of engineering projects, with a strong focus on mechanical equipment installation and production line implementation. This role manages installation vendors and contractors, oversees equipment selection and integration, tracks drawing revisions, and ensures projects are completed on schedule and within organizational objectives.
This position requires strong project management capabilities, vendor coordination experience, and a deep understanding of standard engineering theories and mechanical installation practices.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage mechanical installation projects from planning through execution
- Solicit and review vendor quotations for equipment and services
- Coordinate and oversee third-party installation contractors
- Manage production line installations and equipment integration
- Identify and specify required equipment and materials
- Track drawing redlines and revisions to ensure accurate documentation
- Troubleshoot installation issues and provide technical solutions
- Monitor overall project progress and provide status updates
- Manage and close punch list items
- Maintain detailed documentation including supplier call notes and progress tracking
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety requirements, and company objectives
- Represent the organization in frequent interdepartmental and external communications
Skills & Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering or project management (installation-focused preferred)
- Strong experience managing vendors and contractors
- Proven project management experience, particularly with equipment installations
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Experience tracking drawing revisions and redline updates
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (tracking, reporting, documentation)
- Ability to build strong working relationships across departments and with external partners
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred
- Associate’s Degree acceptable with significant relevant experience
- Complete understanding and application of engineering principles and mechanical installation processes
- General knowledge of related engineering disciplines
- Ability to develop independent, practical, and imaginative technical solutions
- Experience reading and interpreting CAD drawings and technical documentation
