Overview

The WSYMCA is seeking experienced Swim Instructors to join our team at our Church St and Wells Ave locations! Starting pay at $15.50, dependent upon experience, certifications and education. POSITION SUMMARY: Provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swimming classes.

Responsibilities
  • Instructs swim lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines (i.e. keeping swimmers safe, challenged, and actively engaged, maintain a safe swimming environment, and enforcing pool rules & policies), having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourage parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
  • Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules; and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs.
  • Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.)
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports, as necessary.
  • Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
  • Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.
  • Willingness to accept responsibilities and duties other than those assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum age of 15.
  • Certifications:

    CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen.
  • Must be able to demonstrate all stokes and swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard, or equivalent preferred.
  • YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent preferred.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke technique.
  • Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
  • Ability to swim and demonstrate all strokes and skills.
