Job SummaryProvides a safe and secure environment for hospital patients, visitors, and employees by enforcing security regulations and continuously monitoring for potential safety hazards and unusual occurrences. Investigates complaints, assists in restraining patients as necessary, and may arrest criminal suspects under State Special Police license. Consistently demonstrates excellent customer service skills.
Essential Functions- Patrol assigned areas, especially those where security problems have occurred.
- Identify unsafe conditions and improperly secured property to prevent theft, injuries or damage to hospital property, patients, visitors and employees.
- Maintain strict confidentiality standards at all times.
- Investigate thefts, shortages and other complaints involving potential criminal misconduct; notify appropriate law‑enforcement agencies of potential or real civil or criminal misconduct, detain suspicious individuals as appropriate, and, when authorized, make arrests.
- Prepare and submit written reports accurately; keep supervisor informed.
- Maintain accountability for valuables/property and evidence in custody; ensure safekeeping and proper documentation.
- Act as dispatcher utilizing integrated security systems; radio dispatch personnel to respond to occurrences and phone calls for assistance; provide and maintain documentation.
- Assist with workplace and domestic victims; respond to medical emergencies; assist in restraint of patients; protect dignitaries; control pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
- Participate in departmental committees, task forces, and teams.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice preferred. Experience in lieu of a degree is not accepted.
- Licenses & Credentials: Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver’s License (state);
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification;
Basic Officer Certification (CHSO) and Supervisory Certification (CHSS) from the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety; MGH Security RMV Check/Registry of Motor Vehicles Driving Report. - Experience: 3–5 years preferred in hospital, security/police, emergency medical or customer services.

- Understanding of community policing, risk analysis, and crime prevention concepts.
- Strong writing skills for documentation.
- Intermediate computer skills: typing and database use.
