Medical Laboratory Scientist Hematology

The Medical Laboratory Scientist II performs waived and non-waived testing under general supervision, following departmental standard operating procedures and maintaining accurate records. The role requires professional knowledge to interpret test results used by providers for diagnosis and treatment. As a General Supervisor, the Scientist may oversee day-to-day laboratory operations and staff, ensuring quality control, training, competency assessment, and inventory management.

• Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, testing, reporting and record keeping.
• Maintain records demonstrating proficiency testing samples are processed like patient samples.
• Adhere to laboratory quality control policies and document all QC activities, calibrations, and maintenance.
• Follow corrective action policies when test systems are not within acceptable performance levels.
• Identify problems affecting test performance or reporting, correct them or notify the appropriate supervisor or director.
• Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from performance specifications.

Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology required, or Bachelor's Degree in Laboratory Sciences required and Other Certificate/Diploma in Clinical Laboratory Sciences required.

Medical Technologist (ASCP) – American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) preferred.

Laboratory experience 1-2 years required.
