We are honored to be constructing our newest shingle manufacturing facility in Newton KS and hiring is underway as we build our initial plant leadership team. Job Summary

The Maintenance Technician I is responsible for safely completing a wide range of advanced multicraft tasks under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor and provides general preventative mechanical, electrical and facility maintenance & repair support for the plant. This includes troubleshooting, working from blueprints and schematics as related to machine drives and conveying systems in a high volume production line environment.

Daily requirements will include skills such as fabricating, welding, machining, electrical and mechanical troubleshooting. The Maintenance Technician supports the production of high quality commercial roofing products, with a sense of urgency and accountability for equipment uptime. This employee thrives in environments where safety, quality, service and cost are the highest priorities and is able to make recommendations to improve the overall performance of plant equipment.

The Maintenance Technician will interact and communicate effectively with all GAF employees with a positive, customer focused attitude.

Essential Duties
  • Provide general maintenance support and PM’s of equipment for the Plant. This includes troubleshooting, working from blueprints and schematics as related to machine drives and conveying systems in a high production line environment.
  • Complete assigned work orders in a timely manner (includes documenting work performed in Maximo and closing out order).
  • Read instructions, blue prints and manuals, and use any meters, hand tools and shop equipment to perform the required job tasks.
  • Perform millwright work such as aligning a pump and motor, install sheaves, belts, align equipment, check for proper alignment and belt tension.
  • Troubleshoot, repair/replace power transmission, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Perform all phases of welding including MIG Rod. Work on pipe systems, which would involve repairing, modifying, and installing systems.
  • Familiar with troubleshooting variable frequency drives (VFDs).
