Senior Accountant

Kansas Electric is seeking a Senior Accountant
. As a crucial member of our Accounting team, you will play a key role in overseeing core accounting functions, including accounts payable, project accounting, and inventory accounting. This position goes beyond transactional processing and emphasizes analytical review, month‑end close ownership, cross‑department collaboration, and continuous improvement of accounting processes. You will serve as a trusted accounting partner for operations and management as the company continues to grow.

• Ensure accurate and compliant processing of vendor invoices, including purchase order matching, approvals, project cost coding, and discrepancy resolution.
• Prepare, analyze, and present weekly accounts payable and cash‑flow recommendations to the Controller.
• Own and support key components of the month‑end close, including reconciliations, accruals, supporting schedules, and audit documentation.
• Perform month‑end project and inventory cost reviews, including reclassification and correction of misapplied costs.
• Reconcile inventory balances, including inventory subledger to general ledger, and investigate and resolve variances.
• Review inventory transactions for accuracy, including receipts, issues, adjustments, and transfers.
• Own the inventory tracking reconciliation processes (e.g. average or standard cost); including review of tracking and costing accuracy as well as understanding margin impacts.
• Support physical inventory counts and cycle counts, including reconciliation of count results and posting of adjustments.
• Prepare and analyze accounts payable, inventory, and expense reports for management, identifying trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
• Own and support key components of the month‑end close process, including reconciliations, accruals, supporting schedules, and audit documentation.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen accounting controls, inventory accuracy, and process efficiencies, and assist with implementation.

· Accurate, timely month‑end close processes with minimal rework or late adjustments.

· Strong partnership with operations resulting in clean project and inventory cost reporting.

· Improved visibility into AP, inventory, and cost trends for management decision‑making.

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including accounts payable, inventory accounting, or general ledger accounting.
• Strong understanding of inventory accounting concepts, including valuation, reconciliations, adjustments, and controls.
• Demonstrated ability to operate with minimal supervision and exercise sound professional judgment.
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations).
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business preferred.
• Construction, manufacturing, or project‑based accounting experience preferred.
• Experience with ERP systems required (Acumatica ERP experience preferred).
