A classroom where small wins mean everything

Some teaching roles are about data drops and deadlines. This one is about breakthroughs, confidence, and watching a child who once felt overwhelmed start to believe in themselves.

We’re working with a specialist school in South Durham looking for a nurturing, resilient Primary SEN Teacher to join their team. This setting supports pupils with a range of additional needs including autism, SEMH, and communication difficulties. The class sizes are small, the support is strong, and the impact you’ll make is huge.

If you’re the kind of teacher who celebrates the first full sentence, the calm five-minute transition, or the brave attempt at joining group work, you’ll feel right at home here.

What your days will look like

You’ll be leading a small primary class, supported by experienced Teaching Assistants who genuinely know their pupils inside out.

Your role will include:

  • Planning and delivering creative, personalised lessons

  • Adapting learning to meet EHCP targets

  • Building strong, consistent routines that help pupils feel safe

  • Working closely with therapists, parents, and senior leaders

  • Creating a calm, structured space where children can thrive

No two days are the same, but every day counts.

What the school is looking for
  • UK QTS (essential)

  • Experience teaching in a SEN, specialist, or inclusive primary setting

  • Confidence with behaviour support and differentiated planning

  • A patient, steady presence and a good sense of humour

  • Someone who sees potential, not barriers

If you’ve worked with ASC, SEMH, ADHD, or speech and language needs, even better.

Why this school?
  • Supportive and hands‑on leadership

  • Clear behaviour systems that actually work

  • Ongoing CPD and SEND‑focused training

  • A real team feel, no silos, no egos

  • The chance to genuinely change trajectories for young people

This isn’t about “filling a role”. It’s about being part of a community that understands how specialist education transforms lives.

  • FREE access to our online CPD Academy
