Principal Manufacturing Engineer
Company: Barnes Aerospace (subsidiary of MB Aerospace Newton Abbot Ltd.)
Location: Newton Abbot
Role OverviewThis key role reports directly to the Site Engineering Manager and leads a team of approximately eight manufacturing engineers. The successful candidate will develop, design, and execute manufacturing processes, tooling and program planning for a range of aerospace projects.
Key Responsibilities- Manage core ME team activities, set SMART objectives, and drive team performance.
- Develop team capability through skills matrix and training planning.
- Oversee team holidays, sickness, and succession planning.
- Plan engineering resource requirements and allocation against project timelines.
- Lead NPI programmes, ensuring technical support, cost control and financial forecasting.
- Lead CI projects, utilising data analysis and Lean/6 σ tools.
- Define and deliver an Advanced Development roadmap for future technology (machine tools, automation, traceability, Industry 4.0).
- Standardise machine purchasing, technical specification, RFQ, qualification and sign‑off procedures.
- Standardise engineering reporting and weekly review meetings.
- Collaborate with project managers to define process and RASIC determinants across ME, QE and Operations.
- HNC minimum in Engineering with 5 + years of experience in aerospace corporate or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to manage conflicting priorities to maximise profitability and implement corrective plans.
- Knowledge of aero‑engine industry standards and requirements.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong teamwork and independent working ability.
- Prioritisation under pressure and self‑motivation with continuous improvement focus.
- Confidence, motivation and influence skills.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Office 365, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Valid passport.
