Randstad Education is currently seeking a passionate and resilient Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a vibrant school community in the Newton Abbot (TQ12 1NH
)
area. This role is ideal for someone who is dedicated to breaking down barriers to learning and supporting students with diverse needs to reach their full potential.

The Role

As an LSA, you will be the bridge between the curriculum and the student. You will work closely with the Class Teacher and the SENDCO to ensure that every child—regardless of their starting point—feels safe, heard, and empowered to succeed.

  • 1:1 & Small Group Support: Provide targeted interventions for students with ASD, ADHD, or SEMH needs.

  • Scaffolding Learning: Break down complex tasks into manageable steps and use visual aids to support comprehension.

  • Behavioral Mentoring: Use de‑escalation techniques and positive reinforcement to manage challenging behaviors and promote a calm learning environment.

  • Social & Emotional Growth: Help students develop core life skills, including confidence‑building, turn‑taking, and emotional regulation.

  • Progress Tracking: Work with the teacher to monitor student milestones and provide feedback on the effectiveness of support strategies.

What We Are Looking For
  • Empathy & Patience: A natural ability to build rapport with "hard to reach" students and understand the "why" behind their behavior.

  • Adaptability: Someone who can pivot their approach based on a student's immediate sensory or emotional needs.

  • Experience: Previous experience working with children or young people (SEN experience is highly desirable but a "can‑do" attitude is essential).

  • Communication: Strong verbal and non‑verbal communication skills to support students with speech and language impediments.

  • Resilience: The ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain a positive outlook during challenging transitions.
